Most artists keep a sketchbook of some kind—putting their ideas on paper, working out details and compositions. A sketch is usually done quickly to capture an thier subject in a variety of media such as pencil, charcoal, watercolor or ink, and markers among others.

This little sampling of drawings and brushstrokes were pulled from various sketchbooks and slips of paper over the years. I like to go back and look at them periodically, and often use scans of brushstrokes to design logos or icons. There are several among these examples that were the foundation for some childrens picture book illustrations.
